Similar to previous Battle Royales, a group of middle school students are selected to engage in lethal combat on a deserted island until just one remains. The storyline of the manga follows the perspective of Makoto Hashimoto, known as Girl #10, a hapless individual who dreads the prospect of her class being picked to participate in "the program," an unexplainable occasion that coerces students to slaughter one another. Makoto goes to Shikanotoride Junior High School, but decides to face the odds after receiving encouragement from her mother and best friend Itou Yamamoto. Her anxieties are supposedly quelled after hearing rumors that all fifty Programs were already carried out that year, making it impossible for her class to take part.
