Young Makishima Misaki is the protagonist of the story, which begins with her return to her late grandfather's old home. Her father, Kyoichi, is a socially awkward widower and accompanies her. As the only blood relative of her grandfather, Misaki is the sole owner of the house and its artifacts. Although she can barely recall visiting the house as a toddler, Misaki feels hesitant to leave her school and friends. Nevertheless, she soon makes new and extraordinary friends.
