The principle of equal and opposing reactions applies universally, and Mahiru Yanase is no exception. She firmly believes that every positive occurrence in her life is swiftly followed by a misfortune. This cycle has been a constant for Mahiru as she struggles to shine amidst the shadow of her kinder and more adorable twin sister, Mayo.
Mahiru has become accustomed to her luckless existence, but everything changes when Aoi Satomi, a charming classmate, takes a special interest in her. Though Aoi confesses his feelings to Mahiru shortly after meeting her, she can't shake off the feeling that this good fortune is too good to be true. Mahiru is convinced that this newfound happiness will bring about something terrible.
