A Japanese man and an African American manage to break free from a slave ship. They end up stranded on the shores of Edo-era Japan, a community with a firm caste structure formed in isolation from the outside world. The black man's imposing physique poses a challenge regarding the acceptance of Japanese society towards him. Also, the duo needs to figure out ways of survival. However, they must first find a solution to their shackles that demand immediate attention.
