At the age of 18, Tsubomi Shirakawa has finished high school. However, unlike many of her peers who have secured jobs or enrolled in college, she has opted to become a "Freeter" and starts working part-time at a local video rental store. At the same time, she discovers that her cousin, Noni, whom she cannot remember meeting, has made a debut in the entertainment industry.
Although Tsubomi has a slightly plump physique, she has never been bothered by her body shape or physical appearance. But her attitude towards beauty changes when her colleague, Shiro, takes her to a bar where she falls for the owner, Nasukawa.
