During his second semester at Sakakino Academy as a high school freshman, Yuuki Ashikaga frequents the school library where he becomes enamored with Kotonoha Katsura, a fellow classmate who also happens to enjoy reading. Despite Kotonoha already having a boyfriend, she reciprocates Yuuki's interest. However, complications arise when Yuuki's sister, Chie Ashikaga, introduces him to Roka Kitsuregawa, an acquaintance who becomes infatuated with him. In a fit of jealous spite towards Kotonoha, Roka tries to dissuade Yuuki by pretending to like Makoto Itou, another schoolmate. But her plan backfires when Yuuki realizes that Makoto is actually Kotonoha's boyfriend and he decides to confront her about the affair.
