Michiko Shibata, a 29-year-old who recently lost her job, is struggling to make ends meet and is surviving solely on cabbages. Despite having no qualifications and little experience for her age, Shibata has been attending job interviews but to no avail. Meanwhile, she is spending lavishly on expensive gifts for her younger "boyfriend" with the hope that he will marry her and support her financially. Eventually, Shibata uncovers that her romantic interest has been deceiving her by using her as a cash cow.
At her lowest point, Shibata unexpectedly runs into Ayumu Kurosawa, her former boss who she harbored resentment for. Despite feeling responsible for Shibata's joblessness, Kurosawa agrees to help her and employs her once again.
