At the age of 14, Minku Shiraishi had an overwhelming fascination with Jagunna band's frontman, Illiya. Alongside her Illiya-loving comrades, Mahoko Toriumi and Kanoka Moriyama, they visit a music store in search of his newest CD. However, they mistakenly purchase a peculiar CD-ROM called "Wanna-Be," which has a future copyright date of 2099. Kanoka decides to install the software and discovers its potential to create virtual characters of real people.
Minku and her friends decide to create "Cyber Idol Mink" based on her aspirations to become a star. But their choice comes at a cost when Cyber Idol Mink merges with Minku, causing an unforeseen consequence. Cyber Idol Mink quickly becomes a sensation among Japanese people, and Minku and her friends face danger as they are hunted by an obtrusive public. Om, the mascot of Wanna-Be, warns Minku of a possible deletion due to utilizing the futuristic software.
Minku promises herself never to use Wanna-Be again, but when one of her friends encounters severe complications in their pursuit of fame, she accepts the role of Cyber Idol Mink to save their career, ultimately catapulting her own to new heights.
