Saichi Sugimoto earned the moniker "Immortal Sugimoto" for his brutal actions on the battlefield during the Russo-Japanese war. However, he is no hero. After being discharged from the army for almost killing a superior officer, Sugimoto is left to fend for himself. Without any other means of support, he heads to Hokkaido to search for gold - a promise he made to his fallen brother-in-arms.
Sugimoto's search for the precious metal has been in vain until a mysterious traveler shares an urban legend with him. The legend states that a criminal stole the gold belonging to the indigenous Ainu people of Hokkaido and hid it in a location only accessible through a map of tattooed prisoner skins.
In his quest for treasure, Sugimoto meets Asirpa - a young Ainu girl - and together they set out to find the tattooed prisoners. However, their journey is fraught with danger as soldiers and mercenaries also seek the gold. With Asirpa's knowledge of the land, they press on in their quest for the stolen Ainu gold. Along the way, they face revenge, greed, and murder.
