During the late Victorian era, a group of individuals called beastkin existed. These individuals are born with animal ears and tails and are taken in by the government from birth. They are trained to be perfect servants for their assigned human masters. One of these beastkin is Mel, who dreams of finding a master of her own but struggles with clumsiness and timidity.
One day, Mel is given to a young author who lives in a large mansion with only his maid, Colette. Though initially indifferent about having a beastkin servant, the master's relationship with Mel grows as they learn more about each other and become like family.
