According to an age-old tale, the fastest known descent of the Akina Pass was accomplished by the elusive "Ghost of Akina" in a white Toyota AE86. Despite innumerable attempts, the identity of the mysterious driver remains a mystery to this day. Presently, the same vehicle can be seen cruising up and down the pass and making trips to a hilltop resort.
It wasn't the case with Takumi Fujiwara, who had no interest in automobiles unlike his peers, thanks to his routine of delivering tofu for his father. That is until he crosses paths with a rival racing team at the Akina Pass and decides to get behind the wheel of his father's AE86 and take on the challenge.
This rash choice sets Takumi on a journey of rapid races that gradually kindles his ardor for street racing. As he meets with several rivals eager to test their mettle against the legendary "Ghost of Akina," Takumi progresses from being a mere tofu delivery boy to a drifting king.
