Sao, the main character, has been brought back to life with his memories of his previous existence intact. Although he is born into a countryside family, Sao exhibits unusual abilities and an understanding of contemporary culture from his former life. As he matures, he becomes a "Rod Master," acquiring a range of powers that allow him to vanquish adversaries, help the needy, and, on occasion, participate in sexual pursuits.
