God had forsaken Earth fifteen years ago, resulting in an unprecedented calamity where no living creature could give birth or pass away. The dire situation had left resurrected humans, known as the "dead," degenerating over time. Only gravekeepers held the promise of bringing peace to the dead and offered the last glimmer of hope for humanity.
Ai, a little girl, diligently served as a gravekeeper in a small mountain village, blissfully unaware of the horrors that lay ahead. Her peace was disrupted with the arrival of Hampnie Hambart, a bizarre, mysterious figure infamous as the "Man-eating Toy," whom Ai claimed as her father. Hampnie mercilessly slaughtered the village folk, leaving a traumatized Ai all alone. With nowhere to go, she chose to join Hampnie on his journey.
As she delved deeper into Hampnie's psyche, Ai discovered a hidden drive behind his seemingly brutal actions. Furthermore, her own existence was far more complicated than she had ever imagined.
