Despite an age difference of seven years, Ito and Chiharu share a deep and close bond of friendship, though it is unrequited love that Ito feels for Chiharu. Tragically, Chiharu is struck down by a terminal illness and put into an induced coma in the hope that a cure will be discovered. After seven long years, Chiharu awakens to find that Ito has caught up to him in age and is now his homeroom teacher.
