The story is comprised of a sequence of allegories situated in a medieval world of fantasy, meant for a mature readership. The central character, Helga, lives a solitary life with rejection from her community. Nevertheless, to her satisfaction, she basks in being alone. Along with Helga, we explore the lives of secondary characters like her loving partner, Eda, a kind-hearted young mayor, as well as a couple of domestic helpers. The plot is set in the town's core, and it revolves around the bell tower whose chimes change everything.
