The book centers on Hitoe, a 15-year-old girl whose father is a renowned artist, and whose talent in drawing and painting is deemed God-like. Despite her innate flair for art, Hitoe chooses to abandon this pursuit due to the heartbreak caused by her affection for her father's artist friend, Nakada, who is set to marry someone else. This sensitive age compounds her anguish, and draws the notice of Nakada towards her decision to quit drawing.
