Haruichi Onoda's love for mathematics isn't enough to land him a spot at the prestigious Royal High School, so he enrolls at Fukuoka Prefectural Kajimori High School instead. During the induction ceremony, he boldly declares that he'll be representing Japan in the Math Olympiad. Unfortunately for him, he ends up with an unwanted companion: Mami Nanase, who's infatuated with math but lacks the foundational knowledge to truly understand it.
Despite her limitations, Nanase attempts to solve past Olympiad problems, much to Onoda's chagrin. To get her off his back, he gives her a challenge: solve a past Olympiad problem by the next morning or leave him alone. As Nanase struggles to work out a solution, Onoda realizes that she has a genuine passion for math. Meanwhile, he's dealing with the pressure of upcoming exams and ridicule from classmates who don't understand his ambitions.
As the Math Olympiad approaches, the two mathematicians have to prove more than just their ability to solve complex problems--they also have to prove their worth as people.
