The plot revolves around Midori, an orphan girl who is enslaved by a traveling freak show. In this eccentric troupe, she is surrounded by peculiar performers like a mummyman, a snake woman, and a limbless gentleman who drools. Midori's unkind host, Mr. Arashi, denies his freaks much freedom or happiness, and he is particularly harsh towards her. Despite not being a freak herself, Midori cares for the other acts in a way that goes beyond her role as their caretaker.
