Tezuka achieved fame through his manga creation inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, an action-adventure drama that follows the young protagonist, Pete, on a quest to find the treasure. The manga's Western-style art and fast-paced plot captured a wide audience, with 400,000 copies sold and laying the foundation for the modern manga boom. The initial version of "New Treasure Island" underwent significant alterations by Sasaki Shichima, who removed almost 60 pages and revised select dialogue. Tezuka Osamu later remade the manga based on his recollections for the "Complete Works of Tezuka Osamu," intending to restore it to its original form. Additionally, the manga was adapted into an animated format.
