During Japan's Edo era, a "kamuro" was a young girl who learned the art of being a courtesan while assisting one. This term also spawned the "oiran" title, used by kamuro in respectful reference of their most distinguished courtesans. Our story is situated in Yoshiwara's well-known red-light district, within a Shinkiro brothel. The infamous "Courtesan from Hell," Hashidate, commands a reputation as a skilled sadist, making her a highly sought-after companion. Yet, through the observations of her personal kamuro, Namiji, we discover a revealing and unexpected portrait of Hashidate. Meanwhile, Namiji shares various occurrences involving the brothel's diverse clientele, including commoners, samurai, and affluent patrons.
