Makito Maki's encounter with the charming Kizuna Aikawa, beneath a cascade of pink cherry blossoms, coincides with the announcement of their high school entrance exam results. It appears that destiny has brought them together. However, Maki's aspirations of securing a lovely girlfriend are dashed on the first day of class when Kizuna discloses that they are, in reality, a male.
In light of this life-changing news, Maki tries to let go of Kizuna, but the universe has a different plan, as the pair keep crossing paths each day. Although Aikawa puts forth a friendly hand, Maki struggles to come to terms with the truth that Aikawa is indeed of masculine nature. Nonetheless, Maki's perception shifts as Aikawa takes him on various ventures, and he realizes that Aikawa is a genuine person who defies societal gender roles.
