It has been five years since Utena Tenjou lost her parents. Rather than succumbing to grief, Utena cherishes her memories of the enigmatic prince who once comforted her. She affectionately nicknamed him "Peropero-kun" after he wiped her tears with his tongue and gave her a ring as a symbol of their connection, promising that it will lead her back to him someday.
Every year, as spring blooms, Peropero-kun sends Utena a letter. Despite her best friend Kaidou's suspicions that the letters might be from Utena's aunt, Utena believes otherwise. When Kaidou discovers six puzzle-piece-like photographs in the letters, it confirms the existence of Peropero-kun and that he is enrolled in the prestigious Ohtori Academy.
Determined to reunite with her beloved prince, Utena leaves behind her current life and enrolls in Ohtori Academy. However, she soon becomes entangled in the strange and enigmatic behavior of the student council, particularly their mistreatment of the enigmatic Anthy Himemiya. As Utena begins to unravel the mysteries surrounding the school and its inhabitants, she realizes that her quest may hold the key to finding Peropero-kun once and for all.
