Upon awakening, Subaru Natsuki finds himself in an unfamiliar room with Rem and Ram standing before him. Despite feeling disoriented, Subaru wastes no time in playfully jabbing at the sisters over their unique communication style. However, Emilia interrupts before he can make much headway in that regard, thanking him for repeatedly sacrificing himself to save her from Elsa Granhiert's wrath.
After explaining that she brought him to her residence due to his injuries, Emilia introduces Subaru to Roswaal L. Mathers, the hooded figure who owns the mansion. During breakfast, Subaru expresses his desire to serve as a butler alongside Rem and Ram, and Roswaal quickly grants his wish.
Despite initially adapting well to this new role, Subaru ultimately finds himself back at the mansion with no memory of the past few days. Troubled by this, he suspects that his "Return By Death" ability might be a factor but can't say for sure. Will Subaru unlock the secrets of his power and uncover the truth behind his deaths, or will he remain lost in the enigma?
