The protagonist of the story, Robato Hatohara, is a rigid, stoic and socially awkward newcomer to Eiai Academy. His robotic behavior and lack of emotional expression have earned him the nickname "Robo" among his peers, with the exception of his lone friend Tomoya Nakata, a fellow student and golf club member who regularly engages him in conversation. Despite Nakata's attempts to involve Hatohara in the club's activities, the latter remains disinterested in the sport.
One day, while hitting balls at a local driving range, Hatohara surprises Nakata with a hole-in-one shot made with his friend's temperamental club. Observing this feat is Youzan Miura, a young, talented and upcoming professional golfer known as "Samurai" for his distinctive swing style. After a short-lived case of mistaken identity, Miura challenges Hatohara to a match, only to discover that his opponent is an inexperienced amateur with no interest in playing the game.
Nevertheless, Miura is impressed by Hatohara's raw talent and encourages him to improve his skills and challenge him in the future. This motivates Hatohara to step up his game and aspire to secure a spot on Eiai's golf team, with the ultimate goal of facing off against Miura once again.
