Ryo believes that she's just an ordinary high school student leading a normal life in present-day Tokyo, but things are not always as they seem. During a school trip, a mysterious assailant attacks her, revealing himself to be none other than Benkei, the renowned warrior monk who once collected 999 swords from his enemies during the Heinan era. He then proceeds to proclaim that Ryo is Ushiwakamura, the person who defeated him and became his master after collecting the mythical 1000th sword. However, according to folklore, Ushiwakamura was a man and both Benkei and Ushiwakamura lived during the feudal era of 13th century Japan.
