Ulises, a brilliant soldier, is rejected by high-ranking officials due to his inflexible nature. Consequently, he is demoted to a remote location where he meets his new wife, Lea. While the demotion appears to be a dreadful event at first, it turns out to be a blessing as Lea and her siblings teach the unsophisticated Ulises about the significance of love and family. The story is a peaceful account of ordinary life, recording the voyage of a reserved military officer and his uncomfortable but endearing spouse.
