Right before Saho Hanawa was set to begin at Seiran Middle School, where her mother graduated from, she encounters a rain-drenched ghost girl named Chie in full Seiran uniform. Chie requests to accompany Saho back to her house, and they spend their time arguing and chatting with each other. Saho's parents overhear her speaking with Chie, believing she is using her cellphone, only to discover her talking to an empty area in her room. Saho must then reveal that she can perceive a ghost girl named Chie, which greatly astonishes her parents. They proceed to disclose that Chie is the title of their stillborn child that they had before Saho; Saho's deceased elder sister.
