In the secluded mountain forests of Japan lies the little rural village of Shirotoge, cut off from the rest of the world. It is haunted by an old folk tale of a monstrous creature and the mysterious disappearance of children, all while a strange voice echoes through the air. Michio, a writer, sets foot in this eerie place and soon discovers that what he thought was just a tale is actually his worst nightmare come to life. When even the most rational of minds are overwhelmed by primal fears, hope seems lost.
