Due to the extinction of living plants, any remaining ones are highly prized for their rarity. The enigmatic "Shinigami Flower" holds a peculiar fascination for those who have laid eyes upon it, with some even refusing to dispose of it, despite it having taken the life of a loved one by violently blooming inside them.
Japan's renowned medical institution, Gokurakuen, has made it their mission to combat the infectious and carnivorous disease that the Flower propagates. Staffed by experts in the field, the hospital sails across seas responding to house calls. In their fight against the Flower, these dedicated professionals put their lives on the line by ingesting the poison until they develop antibodies or succumb to the malady. Dr. Souma Ichinose, however, goes even further than his colleagues, as his methods of treatment border on the suicidal. Nevertheless, none, not even his assistant Hiyo Tsubakura, can comprehend the emotions that drive his unusual conduct.
