At 14 years of age, Fuuta Okeya is plagued with the ability to see apparitions. He hides his unique birthmark with a bandage on his left cheek, adding to his mysterious persona. But when Kouko Ishigami, a new girl with a scar on her forehead and a towering ghostly companion, enters the classroom, Fuuta is instantly drawn to her. His emotional response leads him to believe it might be love at first sight, however, a series of events transpire that leave Kouko labeling him as the adversary of her life.
Kouko shares that they are bound by reincarnation, and in one of their previous lives, she engraved a curse on him in the form of a birthmark, one that she must recognize and eliminate. Amidst the chaos, Kouko brandishes a fiery spirit circle and violently attacks Fuuta, causing him to plummet down a flight of stairs. But as he falls, Fuuta is transported into his past, where he journeys through multiple lives in a search to uncover the enigma of his turbulent history with Kouko.
