Back in 1998, Hajime Kanou was an avid player of the widely popular trading card game, "Magic: The Gathering," also known as simply "Magic" among enthusiasts. During school breaks, he would immerse himself fully in the game, playing with his peers and causing quite a stir. This caught the attention of Emi Sawatari, the school's top-performing student, who disapproved of what she considered trivial pursuits. Despite Emi's disapproval, Hajime saw her as an intellectual rival and frequently challenged her to academic competitions. However, he was consistently outperformed by Emi.
