Takeuchi Naoko's first manga after a four-year break was Toki Meka, which debuted in the September 2001 issue of Nakayoshi as a yomikiri. The story concluded with a request for reader feedback on a potential continuation. However, Takeuchi shifted her focus to Love Witch soon thereafter.
Toki Meka follows the journey of Hoshiko as she creates the perfect robot girl doll, an ambition she promises to Mimii before leaving for her studies in America. Years later, Meca appears in Mimii's life to assist her in more ways than one. But Meca's character surprises Mimii as she gets into mischief, saves lives, and summons random people, robots, and objects with her cellphone.
