Inari of Fushimi has an unrequited longing for her fellow student Tanbabashi. During one of her attempts at interaction with him, she unintentionally causes him humiliation in front of the whole class. Despite her apologies, he refuses to accept them, and she soon discovers that he is charmed by their classmate Sumizome's irresistible cuteness.
These thoughts plague her mind when she is called upon by Uka-no-Mitama-no-Kami, a fair fox goddess. The goddess offers to grant Inari a single wish in appreciation of her rescue of a little fox-spirit earlier that day. Without much thought, Inari blurts out her desire to become Sumizome. As expected, the wish does not unfold as Inari had hoped, and the benevolent goddess breaks a divine rule to enable Inari to transform back. With the newfound ability to change her form at will, Inari finds it tempting to use it persistently to win over Tanbabashi's heart. However, any overt display of this power could lead to trouble with Amaterasu for both Inari and the goddess.
