Living in Onomichi on Japan's inland sea, Yurie Hitotsubashi had an average middle school life filled with concerns about exams and catching the attention of Kenji, a boy who was totally unaware of her. But one day during lunch, Yurie claims to her friend Mitsue that she had transformed into a goddess the previous night. Her classmate, Matsuri, sees Yurie's newfound divinity as an opportunity to promote her family's Shinto shrine, which was struggling financially. Matsuri aims to replace Yashima-sama, the ineffective local god, with Yurie to give the shrine a boost in popularity. However, Yurie needs to determine how to use her powers.
