In Kochikame, the typical story revolves around Ryou-san's attempts at earning money through inventing new gadgets or capitalizing on trends. He usually succeeds initially, but eventually seeks assistance from his friend Nakagawa when things take a negative turn. However, the success is always short-lived as the trend fades away or spirals out of control. The plots are driven by humor but rely heavily on the contrast between ordinary characters and their bizarre situations, such as Nakagawa's abundant wealth, Maria's attractiveness, and the lack of actual police work. These oddities are often unexplained or justified.
