Every day, Yuuki Nishi and Akira Itou face a life-and-death balancing act. Nishi dangles perilously over the water, threatened by encircling sharks hungry for a taste of her. Meanwhile, Itou walks a tightrope suspended above jagged ice blades, his every step precarious.
When the two finally cross paths, their mutual fear of death seems inescapable. How can they possibly pass each other on such a deadly path without plummeting to their demise?
Fortunately, Nishi and Itou play the same solo game - White Line - and encounter each other often. Together, they offer guidance and support, each one growing in skill as they pursue their individual quests. Itou longs for intimacy with the childlike Nishi, but after a single kiss, he feeds her to the sharks in a fit of embarrassment, convinced their one-sided romance has ended in Nishi's hate.
Nishi is filled with regret over the sudden absence of Itou, but they eventually reconcile and find themselves treading the white line together for the rest of their lives, their surroundings shifting as they go.
