In Western Europe, during times of war, Eleanor Vertalia, also known as Ellen, takes charge as one of Zhcted's Vanadis and leads the charge into Brune. Each Vanadis has been gifted a powerful weapon by a dragon, one for each of the seven territories they reign over. Their commanding power strikes fear into their enemies. Tigre, who serves as an earl in Brune and is a young archer, experiences firsthand the formidable might of the Vanadis when Ellen defeats him on the battlefield. However, she spares his life when she recognizes his remarkable skill, on one condition he becomes her servant.
