Reports of a perplexing ailment dubbed 'Monmow' have surfaced in a secluded village. This disease leads to bizarre bone deformation, ultimately rendering its victims beastlike in appearance before death. Tasked with delving into this condition are two doctors, Osanai and Tatsugaura. While Osanai, a young and well-liked physician, is sent to the village to identify the cause and provide treatment, Tatsugaura- a seasoned and ambitious doctor- is conniving against him. Tatsugaura seeks to subject Osanai to the same affliction in order to remove any obstacles for his own research and to progress his career in medicine.
