At the age of sixteen, Kanoko Urabe has the unique ability to detect lies through the metallic resonance in a person's voice. Despite her honesty, she was rejected by her village for exposing the deceit of others. With no choice but to leave, she ventures to Tsukumoya in 1920s Japan to start anew.
While in the city, Kanoko crosses paths with Souma Iwai, a destitute but brilliant detective. He is impressed by her skill and invites her to assist him in his work. Together, they form the Iwai investigation firm and gain popularity by solving cases with Souma's intellect and Kanoko's power. Along the way, Kanoko's life is enriched by the diverse individuals they encounter during their investigations.
