As technology and machines become more complex, the human race becomes increasingly reliant on them, but they inevitably break down. ATMT employees consider being a "therapist" as the best job since they bridge the gap between the human and cyber worlds, fixing broken machines by inserting their consciousness through a specialized interface. However, this job comes with immense risk as the technician may become trapped in the malfunctioning machine as a bothersome bug. The Automata are a select group of therapists with additional power and skills who undertake the most dangerous and risky tasks.
