The Fallen, demonic beings banished to dwell in the Barrens for their transgressions, have been engaged in a perpetual war with mankind throughout the annals of time. After the imperial hunters, led by General Mu Ryang, capture Azazel, the Fallen's king, they realize that he is not the heartless fiend that legends have made him out to be. Instead, Azazel displays empathy for his brethren, who are being relentlessly hunted by humans, and proffers himself as a hostage in exchange for their safety.
This encounter opens the general's eyes, causing him to question who the true transgressors are. Meanwhile, Azazel plans to manipulate Mu Ryang's shifting perception to turn him against Crown Prince Jeong Jin, ultimately terminating centuries-old hostilities.
