Keiji Black, a falsely accused cannibalistic serial murderer, finds himself conflicted as he suffers from amnesia. Within Jericho (formerly New York City), the threat of Cryptids, monsters manifesting from urban legends, have been brought to his attention. Keiji attempts to track one down, hoping to recover the remnants of his past. But after coming into contact with the Axolotl Cryptid, the monster responsible for a citywide disaster nine years prior, Keiji is forced into the Public Safety Corps.
Here, supernatural ability users called Engines work with the shadow government to rid the world of Cryptids. By unfortunate circumstance, Keiji mysteriously gains some of the Axolotl Cryptid's abilities, turning him into a human/cryptid hybrid called a "Battery". Now with the ability to regenerate, he must now find clues to clear his name and help recover his memories to unveil the truth about himself, the Cryptids, and the many conspiracies within Jericho.
