One millennium before the birth of Christ, a supreme ruler from a bygone dynasty sacrificed himself and his closest companions to ensnare a malevolent demon fox that was wreaking havoc in his realm and causing despair among his people. Known as Daji in China and Kayo in India during the Heian period, this nine-tailed creature with golden locks was responsible for the downfall of multiple governments.
Following a close encounter with a fox that they almost shot with their arrows, Mikuzu and her family experienced tragedy in Kyoto. Faced with her father's rapidly deteriorating health, Mikuzu - the daughter of a ronin - joined forces with her childhood friend and neighbor Onioumaru in a quest for a cure. Nonetheless, when the demon fox abducted Mikuzu with the intention of continuing its destructive rampage in a different form, a battle ensued to rescue the girl and restore the seal.
