In their youth, Hiro and Kaede were parted ways as Kaede and his mother, due to divorce, relocated to America. Although Kaede vowed to return, when he did, he was not the same person that Hiro reminisced from their childhood. Though Hiro yearned to reconnect with his old friend, he was let down and bewildered by Kaede's modified demeanor.
