Remember the classic story of "Journey to the West" in which three companions help a monk with his troubles? Well, this is not that tale.
In "Chinyuuki: Tarou and his Lively Companions," we see a satirical spin on the "Journey to the West" story. Here, we follow Tarou Yamada, an assassin who desires redemption by accompanying a monk on his journey. Tarou's evil deeds include the slaughter of countless individuals and desecrating graves. After being spotted by a monk, Tarou is magically cursed and transformed into a ghastly monkey-baby creature. With the monk's aid, Tarou must fight demons and peculiar entities to win back his human form.
