Shuugo "Sougorou Matsukawa" Azuma, from the distinguished Tamano family in kabuki, is already considered a skillful performer at the age of 15. Yet, he possesses an overinflated sense of self-worth and disregards other actors his age. However, after encountering Junpei "Gensuke Arai" Noda, the successor of the Ootani family, Sougorou is captivated by his rival's outstanding acting skills and makes it his mission to surpass him.
Two years later, Sougorou unexpectedly becomes classmates with Gensuke, who has been monitoring his progress. Sougorou endeavors to outshine Gensuke in his next performance, but the audience's reception is underwhelming, leaving him disheartened and unsure of his next move.
As if in answer to his prayers, Sougorou is given the opportunity to perform a marital role alongside Gensuke. Though hesitant at first, Sougorou accepts the offer in hopes of increasing his fame. The experience of working with his rival may be the key to unlocking a new level of acting and improving their strained relationship.
