Evelynn Revelbritt is the last descendant of a family of villains that nearly drove the empire to its downfall.
As the subject of the citizens of the empire's insults and the annual top contendor for the person who needs to be expunged from the empire ASAP, she leads an exhausting and agonizing existence.
Finally, however, a life-changing, million-dollar opportunity presented itself to her.
"What? The Erelheim fiefdom, which bears the title of Grand County, has been put up for auction?!"
Thus, Evelynn made up her mind.
"I'll snag it. I'll snag it... even if it kills me!"
But specific qualifications had to be met by those applying for the auction. The person must either 1) be a high-ranking noble, 2) be a member of the Church's upper judicial branch, or 3) have made great contributions to the Imperial Family. And this only extended to the people in their family and their spouses.
"If that's the case, then the way to get around this is simple."
She'll pay an unmarried man in good health, who satisfies the qualifications, to be her husband and enter a contractual marriage with her!
Would the most-hated person in the empire be able to get such a husband just like that?
Hell yeah! She'll pay him the highest salary 'round the block and shower him with the best benefits in history. And, not even that, after she secures the bag, she'll divorce him no-strings-attached and he can even take his fair share of the alimony!
This way, a promising person or two would show up at her door, right? And she, the employer, will welcome their assistance with open arms!
But Evelynn had been completely wrapped up in her own delusion...
... Because way too many applicants had come knockin' at her door.
