The protagonist, Captain Pan Gamma Vi Gen, is the leader of the renowned black vessel. Despite his lazy and clumsy demeanor when at rest, once he sets his mind to it, he becomes an exceptional worker. Pan's use of complex language and subtle hints often leaves normal people struggling to comprehend his meaning.
The story begins when Captain Pan permits Mia and Tuban Sanoo to join his crew. Mia, a princess from a fallen nation, seeks the knowledge to restore her country of Ontana. Accompanying her is Tuban, a skilled swordfighter and strategist. Although Pan is the main character, Mia and Tuban feature prominently in all episodes. Mia's goal is clear, while Tuban's is to protect her as per the wishes of someone he trusts. In exchange for her virginity, Pan agrees to transport Mia to the location of the necessary knowledge.
