The tale of Genji Monogatari narrates the journey of Hikaru no Kimi, a young lad who later earns the name of Genji. Hikaru is the product of an illegitimate relationship between his father, a king, and a woman. Deprived of affection, he yearns for his father's recognition. One day, while sitting under his beloved sakura tree, he chances upon a magnificent lady who wins his affection. Nevertheless, their romance is doomed to failure.
