During the Taishou era, Kiyo Fukasaku ventures to Tokyo to pursue studies at Imperial University. While wandering through the labyrinthine streets, he has a serendipitous encounter with a man named Ozaki, who appears to recognize Kiyo's last name. In exchange for assistance with household tasks, Ozaki extends an invitation for Kiyo to stay with him, and they soon become roommates.
Days pass by uneventfully, until Kiyo discovers Ozaki's concealed identity as a kitsune spirit, who has existed for centuries. Furthermore, Ozaki only welcomed Kiyo to stay with him as a debt owed to Seishirou Fukasaku, Kiyo's grandfather. Can a harmonious conclusion be attained between a kitsune who professes disdain for humans and a lad whose demeanor has triggered recollections from the past?
